Risk factors of strokes include
- Thrombotic stroke
Risk factors are advanced age, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia (high blood lipids including cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL), smoking, alcohol consumption and vascular diseases. - Embolic stroke
Risk factors are cardiovascular diseases including arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm), heart valve diseases, myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure and cardiomegaly (an enlarged heart). - Hemorrhagic stroke
Main risk factor is uncontrolled hypertension.
